The Lodge at Lutheran Haven

A Memory Support Environment

The Lodge at Lutheran Haven is a memory support center licensed as an Assisted Living facility.

The Lodge, a specialized environment thoughtfully developed with the needs of individuals with memory impairment in mind, is designed for persons with a level of impairment that makes living at home unsafe, but who do not require the intensive services of a nursing facility.  Residents of The Lodge are encouraged to maintain a level of independence while relying on the safety and security of a residential environment with specially trained, professional staff.

Our Approach

Our approach is somewhat unique and has been designed to maximize the quality of life of the individuals we serve to include:

  • Semi-private rooms that allow both privacy and companionship to help abate the feelings of loneliness and confusion

  • Programming and environmental design that encourages residents to be out of their rooms and interacting with others and the environment for the majority of waking hours

  • Indoor walking circuit and outdoor healing sensory garden paths with opportunity for interaction with others and with nature

Memory Support Services

The Lodge provides:

  • Secure environment with sensory stimulation, music and art therapy, comforting and structured programming, and cognitive therapies to preserve function

  • Communication with primary care physicians to coordinate care, medication assistance, physical, occupation, and speech therapies (with physician orders), and assistance with all activities of daily living

  • Staff members who are specifically trained to manage the impulsivity and poor safety awareness exhibited by some who have memory loss and to be respectful and humane in redirecting the resident to appropriate activities or location

"There are only, maybe, five medications that have currently shown some promise of stemming memory loss in Alzheimer's patients. These people must maintain their activity, walking, interacting with music, art. We have to awaken the senses so that the memory can have a hook. This is accomplished in the memory care setting."
